Provincial Monitoring
As part of our Ecosystem Health Program (EHP), we conduct biodiversity surveys throughout Alberta, collecting data on Alberta’s species and their habitats in both upland and wetland locations. In collaboration with the Government of Alberta, we combine ground-based surveys from the EHP with geospatial products such as the Human Footprint Inventory to generate enhanced mapping products and provincial indicators that contribute to our understanding of Alberta’s landscapes. Thanks to our funding through EPA and our various collaborations, we are accumulating datasets that aid in understanding biological changes associated with human activities.
2025–26 Deliverables
Monitoring efforts in 2025-26 will include field programs for species and habitat data collection in order to develop provincial indicators, supported by strong data processing and management systems. In addition to implementing the EHP, we will implement a targeted pilot monitoring program in the Livingstone-Porcupine Hills sub-regional planning area to develop and test approaches for monitoring the frequency of human line use and associated wildlife impacts.
